January 2022 arrives with game-changing ah-ha moments, insights, and options. With Venus in retrograde and the lingering effects of the full moon in Cancer, the week is a time for reflecting and understanding.
How you livin’? Pay attention to the nudges that carry the message “change needed.” We have all been asked to make major adjustments the last couple of years. The currents of time have driven us to stop and examine our lives. In this space, we are learning how to value ourselves. We are learning to simplify. We are learning to ask what has been missing, what needs mending, what needs rearranging, and what needs to be removed. We are learning to see with clarity.
We made it through to another year, although the work has been relentless. It has repeatedly brought the question, “Are you sure? Is this real?” It has also brought loss and grief and confusion and a dose of “It’s OK. I’ve got this. We’ve got this.” Give yourself credit—you are trying, and you are making it.
Take a moment and breathe that in. Close your eyes, place one hand on your belly and one hand on your heart. Take a deep breath in through your nose and create a long “haaaahhhhh” sound as you sigh out. Repeat this two more times, each one a little more expressive. Get all that energy out of your chest. Invest in a moment of complete contentment.

Venus retrograde continues…
Venus—the planet of love, beauty, creativity, values, money, and dreams—is deep into her retrograde journey, which continues until January 29. She takes us back to the past to reflect, understand, and discover a new way to operate in the present and future. If you find yourself saying, “This feels like last year,” this is where opportunity is knocking for you to find a new route, a new way, and go forward. It’s a new year, let the new chapter begin. This year will be better than last.
We are asked to do everything from love, including self-love. Be mindful to keep good intentions on your task list. Keep training your mind to redirect to the positive when it gets stuck in a negative loop. The feels of this Venus retrograde are best explained by the lyrics of “The Haunting” by Halsey:
‘Cause I’ve done some things that I can’t speak
And I tried to wash you away, but you just won’t leave
So won’t you take a breath and dive in deep?
Because I came here so you’d come for me
The lingering effects of the full moon
With the first full moon of 2022, we are leaning into all the sensations and feeling all the feels. This full moon takes place in the sign of Cancer, which is ruled by the moon, so our emotions will ebb and flow like water. Welcome the sensations, flow, intensity, and embrace your whole self. This is a time of awareness and receptivity. Release your resistance.
Our sacral chakra is home to the water element and is strongly attuned with the moon. The sacral area is also home to our second heartbeat, the heartbeat of the soul. It’s our energetic womb, our home of rebirth, our place of creative power and life force. This is one of the strongest areas from which we experience life in every sense. We have been healing generational cycles and we carry these ancestral energies in this area. From this space of inner wisdom and insight and deep strength, we alchemize pain into power.
Our chakras, or energetic power centers aligned along the spine, correspond with the areas in which we store information and confined energy. Stagnant energy in the sacral area can show up as areas of the body we have reoccurring difficulties with, such as the low back. Be curious. Underneath sensation is undiscovered creative power needing to be witnessed.

The dance between Venus retrograde and the full moon
Nothing happens in isolation—in astrology or life. The interplay of the retrograde cycle of Venus and the full moon in Cancer allows for illumination of places where we can choose ourselves this time. When we are in a constant cycle of the past, we repeat it again and again in the present, and with that we can predict the future outcome. Make the choice of self-love and end the harmful cycles. Live more aligned with the cycles of life. Let it come and let it go.
When someone says, “I’ve always been that way,” I ask, but have you? What made you put walls around your heart? What did you see that made you put veils over your eyes? What demons haunt you from the past? What current or past relationships are not in a state of peace? Heal thyself by reaching a higher ground. Heal thyself by reflecting, resting, and recharging.
We’ve been called to serve in love. Bring it all to peace. Be at peace with everything. Ain’t no worries, at all. Trust that you have led yourself right where you are supposed to be and trust life to give you your heart’s desires. Venus is the planet of wishes. Her vibration is the pulse of the heartbeat in the chest. Venus is the planet of love, beauty, joy, connection. She is reminding us that we can make moves and create a new way. A way that makes sense. A way that is in balance. It’s a time to balance the input and output, the Yin and the Yang. Connect to your heart, let it be open. This time is like instant magic. I am a magnet for miracles. We begin again, here in the now.

How to navigate astrology this week
Recharge your batteries. Do things that remind you that you feel good. Keep your energy field uncontaminated. Be mindful of the things that take you out of peace. Know that any healing you do for yourself, you do for the whole of life. I forgive, I am forgiven. Trust yourself and invest in the path that is being laid before you.
Now is the time to put one foot in front of the other and go forward to a new way. We have no need to turn back time right now. We are in slow motion, be gentle with yourself. It has always been there and it will always be there. Trust life. Be intentional. Be an instrument of peace.
This is a time for reflection, not resolution. A time to notice what we really want and what we want to feel. We are in the pause. January is the wishing month. February is the believing month. March is the receiving month.
Affirmation: We are asked to do everything from love. Wishing, believing, and receiving.
